    What are page groups?

Page groups are universally used across businesses when you need to alert an entire team such as support, service, sales, management, or even sanitation of an important client or task. Additionally, many office or retail businesses will page their entire staff to advise of where a client is that needs assistance. Additionally they're used for company announcements or events. The way a page group works is whenever the page group's extension or 'page code' is dialed it will ring the group of users. The call connects and all phones available for a call in the group answer automatically on speaker, and receive whatever announcement is said by the agent who dialed the extension. Anyone on the phone already will not be interrupted. No one else will be able to speak, so if you need two-way audio paging, try calling the person or starting an r! meeting at meet.ringbyname.com Page groups are available to all RingByName customers and can be enabled in minutes.

How do I call a page group?

It's as simple as taking an existing desk phone or soft phone and dialing the code! For example, a page group with the page code 3000, will enable anyone who dials 3000 to reach all the users in it simultaneously. Be sure your desk phone or softphone is compatible with this feature!

How do I create a page group?

To create a page group on your RingByName system, begin by logging into the system administration panel. In the web application, click on your name in the top-right corner and click on the "Go to System Administration" link.

Next, from the Navigation bar at the top of the screen, select "RingByName Setup".

Then click on the "Users" link on the left side of the screen.

You will see the listing of Users in your RingByName system. At the very bottom of the page you'll see the Page Groups section. To add a page group, select "Add Page Group" on the top right.

Each Page Group is assigned a name, a code, and a list of users for the code. Select a name for your page group. Next select a code. It must be between 2 and 5 digits, and can't be the same as any existing user extensions.

Next, select the users that are going to be alerted for the page group and hit 'save' at the bottom.

What is the cost of the page groups service?

This feature is entirely free to Ringbyname customers! It is included with your existing RingByName account. Of course, to take advantage of the feature you'll need at least two users so they can page one another. The more employees you have the more useful the feature is.

Why can't I use a particular page code?

Page codes have a few rules to ensure they work with all the other features available on your RingByName account. Page Groups can only use codes that are two to five digits in length, and can't use a code that already belongs to a user's extension number. For example, if Charlie is extension 300, the Sales Team won't be able to use a page code of 300. We recommend using 3 digits for extensions and 4 digits for page codes or vice-versa to best improve your staff's ability to recall these codes.

What devices work with page groups?

The devices we currently offer and the majority of the devices we've offered in the past all work with the page group feature. Devices purchased through Ringbyname including Yealink, Cisco SPA, and Polycom devices all can take advantage of this feature. Vtech devices unfortunately cannot use this feature. If your using your own devices, Yealink, Cisco work out of the box. Polycom and Grandstream require additional settings to use page groups. Additional phone models may work! Contact our support team at 855-345-7464 to try the feature with your devices!

Not only can you do so, we encourage it! Being able to alert an entire building to an important client or event is a useful feature to have in your arsenal.
